Before Hailey Bieber Had Her High-End Smoothie Era, Palm Springs Already Had a Queen — Suzanne Sommers

If 2025 has taught us anything, it’s that celebrity branding has fully escaped the beauty aisle and cannonballed straight into our beverages. But long before Hailey Bieber turned “glazed” into both a skincare aesthetic and a smoothie flavor, Palm Springs locals were already sipping on the original diva of diet-culture deliciousness: Suzanne Sommers.

Yes, darling.

Before Erewhon was bottling vibes and selling them for $19.99 plus tax, Palm Springs had its own reigning smoothie sovereign.

And she wore the crown well.

The Fall of the Hailey Bieber Smoothie… and the Rise of a Forgotten Icon

Let’s address the elephant in the blender: Erewhon recently quietly—and I do mean celebrity-PR-team-at-3AM quiet—rebranded the “Hailey Bieber Smoothie” to the far more generic “Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie.”

The word on the street? The contract ended. No more Hailey Halo. No more Strawberry Stardom. Just… smoothie.

But before Hailey’s strawberry empire dripped onto the scene in 2022, someone else had already perfected the art of slapping her name onto things you can eat—and she did it with Palm Springs flair.

Her name was Suzanne Sommers.

The Legend Begins at a Café Opening: A Smoothie Is Born

Picture this: Palm Springs. 2017. The opening of Mod Café near Koffi North (now Crudo). The sun was out, the outfits were breezy, and the smoothies were strangely… green.

Samples were floating around like VIP wristbands. A waiter handed me a cup and said the magic words:

“It’s the Suzanne Sommers Smoothie.”

I asked, innocently, “What’s in it?”

He replied, deadpan:“Greens, banana, spirulina… and bits of Suzanne Sommers, grounded in.”

He burst out laughing immediately. “I’m kidding! She just loves this smoothie and asked us to put her name on it.”

That, my friends, is how Palm Springs does celebrity branding: casual, chaotic, and absolutely iconic.

Before Instagram Sponsorships… There Was Chrissy Snow

Many people know Suzanne Sommers as Chrissy Snow, the bubbly blonde of Three’s Company who perfected the art of comedic timing and calorie-counting before wellness was a billion-dollar industry.

She went from sitcom sweetheart to thigh-toning tycoon—literally. The woman invented the ThighMaster, an infomercial empire that made leg day look glamorous.

She was also a 40-year Palm Springs legend, splitting her time between acting, entrepreneurship, and—apparently—telling restaurants to name things after her.

Her former 28-acre French country-style estate, bought with her husband Alan Hamel in 1977, was listed for $8.95 million after her passing in 2023. The place was basically a wellness resort before wellness resorts were a thing.

The Sommers Menu Takeover: A Palm Springs Tradition

Long before social media managers existed, Suzanne Sommers was doing IRL collaborations with local restaurants.

A few Palm Springs favorites:

Tyler’s Burgers — The “SOMERSIZED” Burger

Caramelized onions, no bun. A protein queen’s dream.

The Sandwich Spot — “The Thigh Master”

Marinated chicken, BBQ teriyaki bomb sauce, cheese of your choice. It’s juicy, bold, and has absolutely no intention of skipping leg day.

Rumor has it that supermodel Cindy Crawford, who’s building a Palm Springs home, frequents Sandwich Spot too. If Cindy follows Sommers’ footsteps, we’re pitching menu items now:

  • The Model Melt

  • The Runway Reuben

  • The Supermodel Sammie (Bethenny Frankel would approve)

You're welcome, Cindy.

The Makeup Counter That Once Was

Not only did Suzanne Sommers rule the smoothie and sandwich scene, but she also founded Suzanne Organics, a toxin-free beauty line launched in 2013 and expanded in 2019.

For years, Clark’s Nutrition in Palm Desert even had an in-store Susan Sommers makeup counter—complete with a life-size poster, because of course.

On a recent visit, however, the B-12 shot lady broke the news:The counter was gone.

Discontinued. Much like Hailey’s smoothie, it seems the Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley quietly retired another icon.

But don’t panic: her products live on across the internet—from her official site to Poshmark and Mercari, where dedicated fans still hunt for vintage Sommers cosmetics.

The Legacy Lives On

Whether she was toning thighs, filming sitcoms, building beauty empires, or casually naming half the Palm Springs menu after herself, Suzanne Sommers knew how to brand before branding was a word.

She didn’t need TikTok. She didn’t need Instagram. She didn’t need a launch party with a ring light wall and a DJ who only plays remixes of Rihanna songs.

She just walked into a café and said,“Hey, I love that. Name it after me.”

And Palm Springs said…“Yes, queen.”

Suzanne Sommers may be gone, but her entrepreneurial sparkle—and her snackable legacy—still lives on in every SOMERSIZED bite.

Because before celebrity smoothies were trendy…Suzanne Sommers was already blended, branded, and brilliant.
