Beyond Bachelorette Fun: Palm Springs as Carey Mulligan's Good Luck Charm for an Oscar Win

When you think of Palm Springs, you think of "Bachelorette Party." It's the place where gal SQUADs come together and celebrate. As Carey Mulligan, star of Maestro on Netflix, accepted the International Star Award from fellow actress Meryl Streep at the 2024 Palm Springs 35th Annual International Film Awards, overcome with excitement, Carey gushed: "I love Palm Springs. I had my bachelorette party here!"

Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep starred in the 2015 British historical drama film 'Suffragettes,' which chronicled women's suffrage in the United Kingdom. The two remain gal pals since Carey asked Meryl to present her with the International Star award in Palm Springs, California. "Carey called me up and asked me to come to Palm Springs. I said sure, I'll throw on a frock and come down," Meryl Streep quipped as she stood on stage at the Palm Springs Film Awards, kicking off the 2024 Hollywood film awards season.

Oscar Nominations for the Maestro's Wife

Unsurprisingly, Carey Mulligan has received an Oscar nom for Best Actress in a Leading Role for playing Felicia Montenegro, wife to Leonard Bernstein, in the Netflix movie Maestro. "She's an incredible musician actor with her voice and her melody. The whole movie is sort of put together melodically. Most of the music is the melody of Leonard and Felicia's dynamic," states actor, writer, and director of Maestro Bradley Cooper in an interview on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast.

When Bradley Cooper was thinking of casting Carey Mulligan as Felicia Montenegro Cohn Bergstein, he attended the opening performance of Carey's one-person show on Broadway. That night, a curtain rod hit her head during her performance on stage. Bradley went to visit Carey while she was in the emergency room. Thankfully, Carey made a speedy recovery to embark on her award-winning role.
